Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today announced that it has achieved an all-time record Canadian market share of 12.4 per cent, thanks to strong sales in the month of May. Highlights include:
- Total TCI sales of 19,596 units, up 0.7 per cent over last May.
- Total Toyota brand sales of 18,489 units are down 0.7 per cent over last May.
- Toyota car sales of 14,599 units are down 1.6 per cent.
- Toyota truck sales of 3,890 units, up 2.8 per cent compared to last May.
- An all-time monthly record for Lexus with sales of 1,107, up 32.4 per cent for the month.
- Lexus car sales of 454 units are 33.9 per cent ahead of last May. Lexus truck sales set a new May record of 653 units and are 31.4 per cent better than a year ago.

"The new Highlander Hybrid goes on sale in Canada on June 16th," said Tony Wearing, Managing Director of TCI. "TCI's hybrid sales are currently up 42.1 per cent, year-to-date as we add a third hybrid vehicle to the lineup. Consumers now have an even greater choice of vehicles to suit their needs and lifestyles."
Additional May sales highlights include:
- Best month ever for Echo lineup (Sedan and Hatchback), with 3,817 units outselling last May by 8.4 per cent.
- Best month ever for Matrix, as sales of 2,878 units leap ahead by 35.8 per cent.
- Tacoma truck sales of 663 units are ahead of last year by 212.7 per cent.
- Total sales of Lexus RX SUVs reach an all-time high of 594 units, up 41.8 per cent.
- Sales of 102 Lexus GS sedans are up significantly over last May.
- Sales of 266 Lexus ES sedans are up by 26.7 per cent.
